Conversion of bulk carrier into transhipper

M/V Hafeet (ex Niki) was a bulk carrier converted into unit for transhipping operation in the Persian Gulf. The major conversion works, which were carried out at Chengxi Shipyard in 2020, consisted in fitting cargo handling equipment on main deck and adding auxiliary diesel engines in the engine room. The cargo handling equipment included four heavy duty cranes, one barge loader and three conveyor belts of about 3000t/h capacity.

Additionally, accommodation spaces were enlarged and to enhance mooring operations, the ship was provided with a 1800 kW bow thruster. The ship has been certified for transhipping operation in open seas up to 2 m of significant wave height and this required dedicated seakeeping calculations and dynamic mooring analysis. The design work was based on the measurements obtained through an accurate 3D laser scan carried out all over the open decks and machinery room which allowed significant saving in terms of prefabrications and delivery times.

Interprogetti Genova has been dealing with the design of new builds and conversions of a wide range of ships such as self-discharging bulk carriers, floating transhipment terminals, livestock carriers, tugs, oil & chemical tankers, ro-ro cargo, ro-ro pax, passenger ships, yachts, barges, offshore units, etc. Click here and discover more design and engineering work.
